General Mills says Bye to Food Dye!

Updated: Sep 28, 2020

Hey Everyone! Urgent Update!

General Mills has released the news that they intend to remove all food dyes from their breakfast cereals by 2017! Substitutes for the food coloring will include turmeric and a variety of juice concentrates. This is wonderful news and will definitely make the food healthier! They are even going so far as to replace artificial vanilla with the real thing.

While this is all great news I want to point out a concern from a food allergy stand point. Since they are substituting the colors for foods, such as fruit juice concentrates (blueberry, strawberry, etc.), it’s important to be reading the new labels. The new fruits for color might be ones you are allergic to!

Just wanted to give you all a heads up to be checking the labels to see if anything has changed between now and the final products (hopefully) in 2017.
